I am a national expert in organizational compassion and well-being in healthcare, with a passion for inspiring hope and creating healing environments in any workplace. As a pediatric hospice and palliative care physician, I learned from grieving parents that their children's most compassionate caregivers had been similarly cared for by their teams. In response, I became an expert in organizational compassion, obtained an MBA, and created the first clinician-reported experience measure of compassion for use in healthcare.
But even as my research expertise deepened, I was troubled by continual high levels of burnout and distress in my colleagues. In response, I became a Chief Well-Being Officer and an expert in workforce mental health and well-being.
I have spoken and taught across North America, frequently hearing from attendees that “This was the best talk I have ever attended.” When I see an audience member become emotional, feel seen, and become inspired to act during my talks, I feel that I am living into my true purpose.
I live in Cincinnati, OH with my two daughters, my husband Paul who is a proud veteran of the US Air Force, and our three pets. In my spare time, I am an avid reader and can be found handing out high-fives on a Peloton leaderboard near you.
